Probably one of the most
famous tapestries in the
world, The tapestry of
Bayeux, also called
Tapisserie de la Reine
Mathilde (The Tapestry of
Queen Mathilda)
represents the conquest
of England by William the
Conqueror, Duke of
Normandy.

The original work, which
measures 70 metres in
length by 50cm deep was
embroidered in the 11th
Century and can still be
seen in Bayeux, France.
Bayeux is in northern
France, very near the
beaches of the 'Normandy
landings' of the second
world war.
